ReMonstered: Lavahead by Blake, age 6

Posted by Dan Simon on

The hottest monster is here! Lavahead comes from the incredible mind of my little buddy Blake, who's six. He even sent me a little video explaining his monster drawing that he did *just for me*. I’m not going to share the video for obvious reasons, but it was really heartwarming. And, I love his monster. Without further ado, here’s Blake’s drawing! LAVAHEAD ORIGINAL DRAWING Blake’s drawing is a lot more detailed than mine. He included the cave that lavahead lives in, trees, and sky. He also told me that Lavahead has a big fat belly, a horn on his head,...

ReMonstered: The Fluey Monster by Jax, age 4

Posted by Dan Simon on

This is Fluey. Or maybe it’s a Fluey. I feel like this is the kind of gentle monster that moves in herds, and I’d like to think of the Fluey as a species of monster. Large, hairy creatures, with vestigial wings, and a large tail. These come from the adorable mind of Jax. He’s four, and he painted his monster for me. THE ORIGINAL FLUEY MONSTER As you can see, this is quite the piece of art. There’s a lot more going on here than in my drawing – I pared mine down to the essentials. Here’s what the story...

ReMonstered: The Jenna Monster by Jenna, age 3

Posted by Dan Simon on

If you know Jenna the way I know Jenna, then this monster totally makes sense as soon as you see it. Jenna is an outgoing little monster herself. Her monster didn’t really have a name, as she just decided it was “Jenna’s Monster”. And it makes sense. This is, completely a monster that would only belong to Jenna. It is a one of a kind. She’s 3. I wasn’t really going to press her to name it. Though, I think going forward, if I don’t get a name for the monster, I might give a sneak peek on my FB...

ReMonstered: Friend Monster by Charlie, age 5

Posted by Dan Simon on

ReMonster is back! Coming back to you with a hold over from last year – Friend Monster, by Charlie. He was five at the time (He’s six now.) Charlie’s monster is unique in one very particular way: He has a job. You see, Friend Monster isn’t *just* a monster. He’s a POLICE monster. Now, while I’m sure that there are many similarities between a regular police officer and a monster police officer, Charlie was very specific about what Friend Monster does – he helps monsters who need friends. Now, I’m not sure if that means that he helps monsters find the friends they...

The Octogorgon by Fiona, age 6

Posted by Dan Simon on

It’s monster monday and we’ve got a doozy! This spawned from the masterful mind of fiendish Fiona, age 6. Let me introduce you to the three-eyed, two-headed Octogorgon! It’s essentially a two-headed octopus with two clawed tentacles and a nasty bite! At first, I thought it was two headed, three eyed snake-haired lady with tentacle legs, as the Gorgons of ancient greek mythology were snake-haired ladies. Which might have made for a pretty interesting monster that I might keep in the vault and do a version of that at a later date. But this monster is pure monster – nothing...
